The Pet Passport

Since the pet passport was introduced it is now possible for dogs to enter the UK from most countries without the need for quarantine.

They do however, need to satisfy several requirements before entry which are laid down by DEFRA. Should you choose to leave your pup or older dog with me, this will not be a worry for you as I take care of all the necessary vaccinations & paperwork

Just as a basic guide (for a puppy or adult entering the UK from an EU country) for you to see what is involved & the relevant time scales, is an outline of what happens:-

1. Firstly, it is necessary to vaccinate the pup with his 'primo - vaccinations'. Normally the breeder has had the first of these two vaccines done already, but if not we start from afresh.

2. A microchip is necessary for identification purposes.

3. A rabies vaccine (normally Rabisin) is given at 3 months of age.

4. One month after the vaccine a blood sample is taken for a blood test to ascertain the level of rabies antibody  - if this level is 0.5 i.u./ml or above then the pup can enter the UK six months after the date of the blood test.

5. Between 24 & 48 hours before travel to the UK, the pup must have a healthcheck & flea, tick & worm treatment is also given.

Once all of the above criteria has been met, your pups paperwork is completed by a registered French vet which enables his entry into the UK.

Australia has similar criteria but with extra blood tests as well as the need for the ministry vet to endorse all the paperwork. This is known as Certificate A which I am able to complete fully. I can also organise Certificate B & the flights via an agent.

For some people in foreign countries, what with the language barriers, sometimes all of this can seem quite daunting. I can releive you of this worry & if necessary even arrange your pups travel into the UK.

Please feel free to ask me about any concerns or worries you might have.

Having fun in the snow!
